Our mission
UGAOFNY is a non-profit dedicated to introducing young people in cities to golf.While sports like basketball and football are widely available, golf often is not. We change that by providing access to instruction, courses, and practice facilities.We believe golf teaches honesty, integrity, and sportsmanship. Through mentorship and positive role models, we use the game to help shape character and create healthy competition.We work in partnership with others who share our goal of making golf inclusive and accessible to all urban youth.
Meet the team
Walter Wright – PGA Certified Instructor & Founder, UGAOFNYWalter Wright is more than a golf instructor—he’s a mentor, advocate, and bridge-builder in the world of golf. As a PGA Certified Instructor with over 15 years of teaching experience, Walter brings deep technical knowledge and a passion for growing the game to every lesson.
Driven by the belief that "is a life without passion is not a living one," Walter founded The Urban Golf Association of NY, a nonprofit dedicated to introducing youth in underserved communities to golf. Through this organization, he provides free clinics, equipment, and course access, using the game to teach values like integrity, discipline, and sportsmanship.Ayinde Mcburnie – Instructor & Director of Operations , UGAOFNYAyinde McBurnie brings a unique blend of leadership, and community-centered focus to his role as Director of Operations for UGAOFNY. A devoted 17 year veteran NYPD officer and passionate golfer, Ayinde leverages his experience in public service and love for the game to create structured, impactful opportunities for urban youth through golf and mentorship.
